Stay Late

Nobody called it.

Nobody had to.

The grilled meats are done. The corn is on the table. Someone just pulled a salad straight from the garden like that's a normal thing people do and honestly it is now. Wine on the left. Something dark and something clear on the right. The Traeger is still warm. 

This table has seen some things.

Mandarin opens bright and generous — the first sip of something cold on a warm summer night. Basil threading through like something growing three feet away that ended up in tonight's salad. Warm air drifting through the heart the way a perfect summer night drifts — endless, generous. Nobody is saying "last call.”

Then someone came back with the bug spray.

And just like that — the decision was made. Without a word. Without a vote.

Your people. That table. Country giving way to yacht rock giving way to something nobody remembers requesting but everyone knows every word to.

Zero regrets.

Nobody's leaving.
